After taking up ED 127 (Assessment of Student
Learning) and finishing all the course requirements, we realized that being a
teacher is not that easy. You have to consider a lot of things and meticulously
follow a series of steps. A test paper doesn’t just pop up. We realized that
you don’t just simply copy questions from the book, instead you plan your
objectives, balance the number of items and carefully prepare the questions.
It also amazed us, knowing that
checking the test paper and recording it is not the end product, but instead it
is one of the starting processes towards determining the index of difficulty
and discrimination, to be able to know the action needed.
We really learned a lot of Math
specifically statistical applications for assessing the student’s learning. We
can apply this in the future in the sense that through our skill in assessing
and evaluating one’s learning, we will be flexible enough to adjust our
lessons, change our techniques, reteach what needs to be retaught and make
follow-up lessons if needed. All these exist because of the capability to
access how far the learner has understood the lessons.
